her hay each day so she survived it well. Paths had to be dug and in  some cases there were tunnels such as in Church Lane. School was in the village so children were able to attend. A part of the school was used for a lilbrary with a limited collection. There was a WI so ladies had experience with supplies of jam and bottled fruit in kilner jars which made for self-sufficiency. Most of the villagers had gardens and allotments so had stocks of potatoes and other vegetables such as salted beans as well as pickled eggs. This was by far our worst winter in my memory.
